dog training done properly is vital for a happy and well-adjusted companion.  There's three kinds of dog training  :- behavior, obedience and activity

Behavior training is the one we most often think about. It includes housetraining, coming back when called, behaving well around other animals and people, and being a generally well behaved companion.

Obedience training makes a dog perform specific actions on command, such as coming to 'heel, or even herding a flock of sheep. It's surprising, but some very obedient dogs may not be well behaved e.g. they immediately come to heel, but don't behave well around other dogs.  Both are important for a family pet.

Activity training is, like it says, 'training for specific activities' such as mountain rescue, agility activities, maybe drug sniffing, working as a guide dog etc.
